Minds Behind the Complexity
Meet our diverse group of researchers, engineers, and visionaries dedicated to unraveling the data patterns that shape our modern world.
Prof. Stanislav Sobolevsky
Lab Director, PhD, DrSc
Dr. Sobolevsky leads the lab, and holds faculty appointments at New York University and Masaryk University. He studies complex urban systems through their digital image, the big data they create. Research of his team leverages data science, network analysis, mathematical modeling, machine learning and AI for urban innovation in transportation, energy, public health, safety and other areas. Holds PhD (1999) and Doctor of Science habilitation degree (2009) in Mathematics. Authored over a 100 of research publications in top-tier journals and conferences, including Nature’s Scientific Reports, PNAS, Physical Review E, PLOS ONE and others

Devashish Khulbe
PhD Student at Masaryk University | Researcher | DigitalTalentLab Mentor
I am a researcher with a focus on the intersection of data science and urban science, deploying deep learning methods like Graph Neural Networks to complex urban problems, such as transportation and socioeconomic modeling. Before joining the lab at MUNI, I have worked on research projects at Urban Complexity Lab and ML4G Lab at NYU's Center for Urban Science+Progress. Besides academia, I also worked briefly with an advertising analytics based firm in New York City, and more recently interned with Thales Research and Technology in Paris.
Yuri Bogomolov
Senior Staff Data Engineer at Robinhood | PhD Student at Masaryk University | Researcher
Experienced Software Engineer with a demonstrated history of working in the top tech companies and investment management industry. Skilled in Distributed systems and Data Analysis. Strong engineering professional with two Master’s Degrees focused in Computer Science and Data Science.
Alexander Belyi
Researcher | Software Engineer
A researcher and a software engineer working on data storage and analysis. I received my PhD from Masaryk University under the supervision of Prof. Sobolevsky. I study graph neural networks and their applications to complex networks of human mobility and interactions. Previously, I spent a year as a visiting PhD student at Senseable City Lab at MIT and almost five years with the same lab at SMART in Singapore. Before that, I worked as a lead C++ software engineer.
